SPECIAL EDUCATION AND ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SEAC)

Students with Down syndrome are represented by a member of Down syndrome association of Kingston on the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) and on the Limestone District School Board.

The SEAC is responsible for submitting carefully developed and appropriate recommendations to the school board on all matters related to the provision of special education programs and services to its pupils with exceptionalities. The SEAC must ensure that these recommendations focus on the most appropriate special education programs and services for all students with exceptionalities, individually and collectively.

DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION of ONTARIO (DSAO) Board Member

The Down Syndrome Association of Ontario (DSAO) is a charitable, non-profit organization, which is composed of local Down Syndrome Associations from across the province. The local Down Syndrome Associations throughout the province provide direction to the DSAO by sending local representatives to sit on the DSAO Board of Directors. Through consultation with the local associations, the DSAO Board determines the ways it can be the most helpful to the people of Ontario with Down syndrome and their families.

JOCELYN AGRAVANTE

PRESIDENT

Profession: Nurse Practitioner and Kingston Community Health Centre Jocelyn has a 8 year old son with Down syndrome and 5 year old daughter. She is the founder of DSAK and strives to advocate for the inclusion, support and awareness of persons with Down syndrome in the areas of health, education, recreation and employment in Kingston.

VICE PRESIDENT

Profession: Special Education Resource Teacher at Regiopolis Notre Dame Catholic High School. Alana is a proud and energetic mama to two wonderful children, one who happens to have an extra chromosome.

SECRETARY

Profession: Referrals Coordinator for Ininew Patient Services at Hotel Dieu Hospital.

About DSAK: “It is a pleasure to serve on the DSAK Board as I have always believed in building community and serving in community. I have been serving in various aspects over the years, wherever we called home, in activities ranging from Kids Clubs to Soccer Coach to Parent Council.”

Profession: Financial Advisor at Caldwell Wealth and Estates.

Dan is good friend to the Down syndrome community and his expertise is an asset to the DSAK board

MARY FOX

BOARD MEMBER

Profession: Special Education Resource Teacher in the Life Skills Centre at Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School Mary is a mother to 4 children and has lived in Kingston for 25 years. Mary has worked in Special education for 10 years. She co-ordinates programming and daily activities for 15 teenagers with a variety of physical and intellectual challenges for the past 6 years.
